Taken from my lecture on this topic:
Basic knowledge of homeopathy:
—To be able to counsel patients about its general use
—To advise patient on the current state of the evidence
—Its use in conjunction with other medications

What should an ethical and right minded pharmacist do?
—With these items in mind, pharmacists should be able to differentiate between homeopathic and non-homeopathic dietary supplements; assist the patient in evaluating the scientific homeopathic literature before selecting a product, and identify patients who should not be self-medicating with homeopathic drugs and need referrals to a homeopathic practitioner or medical doctor.
And in conclusion
— Pharmacists must be aware of the scientific literature and decide for themselves if the data are sufficient for them to endorse the use of homeopathic preparations in their practices.
— To fulfill their obligations to their patients and their profession, pharmacists should at least have a basic understanding of homeopathic principles and the nature of remedies.
— As accessible, critical, science-based health care professionals, pharmacists should evaluate the research on homeopathy without bias and then convey the facts to their patients and other health professionals .
I've read on online pharmacy reviews about no prescription that it's important that consumers are properly given direction on the use of the drugs they use.I think pharmacies should indeed be able to explain well the drugs they administer.
ReplyDeleteThey oughta be knowledgeable here; otherwise they'll just cause a spike in the cost of hoodia and other medications because of mismanagement.
